A student can learn in a variety of ways. It is my belief that students learn by participating interactively and repetitively with any given lesson. It is also necessary that, as a teacher, I should provide a welcoming atmosphere to help build a supportive learning environment.

I believe my style of teaching would mainly fall under the viewpoint of constructivist theory. This is because I believe that learning is an active process where the students are allowed to construct new ideas or concepts based upon their prior knowledge. I think it is wise to use the prior knowledge of students in order to apply and develop a concept in the mind of a student. The other ways that learning can occur is through the use of music, art and writing, which can be used to support the main concept being taught. This can been seen in project based learning were students are required to show creative skills to demonstrate a main idea.

Technology is becoming more and more prominent in the lives of today’s students so it only makes sense that technology would draw a student’s attention during a lesson. For example, an appropriate video from YouTube can be a good way to introduce a new and difficult concept into the minds of students. Lab Quests and Vernier probes are another form of technology that can help a student learn in the lab and keep their attention.

I would like for my classroom to feel approachable and fun. However, I would not like to give the feeling that the classroom is run by the students. I would like to not only create a spark for learning about the unknown but also create a passion for it. The classroom should always be a learning environment that is accessible to students and parents through the help of an instructor. This can produce a safe learning environment that can fuel the student’s enthusiasm for learning.

When thinking about an ideal classroom I always imagine it to be clean. That means that classroom organization should be remembered when teaching. This is because if a student is present in a classroom that is unorganized or organized in a way were the students learning prohibited it can lead to the student being distracted or hinder their ability to learn. It is also important to remember that as a teacher you can give valuable encouragement and motivation that is irreplaceable to the students self esteem. So it is important to have units that can offer not only tests as a form of assessment but other activities that can help provide encouraging feed back. If the classroom is organized in such a way where the students ability to learn is not hindered and the teacher can provide adequate feedback, students can also use the classroom to their advantage to collaborate with other students.

I believe students should be encouraged to collaborate and to be interactive in the lesson. Technology will be well used in the class and lab in a considerate manner. I should also be readily accessible to collaborate with other teachers so that the students can benefit from planning so they can comfortably learn in a safe environment. I believe that parents and students should be able to have access to the classroom as well so that they can see what their children are learning and so that the students can continue to learn enthusiastically.
